Char Dham Yatra 2025 Travel Itinerary
1. Start at Dehradun / Haridwar Starting Point: The journey typically begins at Dehradun (the capital of Uttarakhand) or Haridwar (a major city and pilgrimage hub in Uttarakhand).
- Dehradun to Yamunotri: 170 km (approx. 6-7 hours by road)
- Haridwar to Yamunotri: 210 km (approx. 7-8 hours by road)
2. Dehradun / Haridwar to Yamunotri
Destination: Yamunotri Dham is the first destination of the Char Dham Yatra.
Route:
- From Dehradun/Haridwar, travel towards Rishikesh, and then continue to Chamba, and finally reach Yamunotri.
- The road journey will take you through scenic hills, rivers, and small towns in Uttarakhand.
- Trek to Yamunotri Temple: The final stretch from Janki Chatti to Yamunotri is a 5 km trek or you can opt for a pony or palanquin ride.
3. Yamunotri to Gangotri
Destination: Gangotri Dham, the second stop on the Char Dham route.
Route:
- After visiting Yamunotri, head back to Janki Chatti and drive to Uttarkashi.
- From Uttarkashi, continue the journey to Gangotri, passing through the beautiful Harsil valley along the Bhagirathi River.
- The drive is approximately 5-6 hours, depending on road conditions.
4. Gangotri to Kedarnath
Destination: Kedarnath Dham, the third sacred site in the Char Dham Yatra.
Route:
- From Gangotri, drive back to Uttarkashi, then head towards Rishikesh.
- From Rishikesh, proceed to Gaurikund (the base of the trek to Kedarnath).
- Trek to Kedarnath: The trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath is around 20 km. Alternatively, helicopter services are available for quicker access to Kedarnath.
5. Kedarnath to Badrinath Destination: Badrinath Dham, the final temple of the Char Dham Yatra.
Route:
- After completing the pilgrimage at Kedarnath, drive back to Gaurikund and then proceed towards Badrinath.
- The drive from Kedarnath to Badrinath takes approximately 7-8 hours.
- The route will take you through beautiful valleys and mountain roads, passing through Joshimath before reaching Badrinath.
6. Badrinath to Dehradun / Haridwar (Return Journey)
Route: After completing the Char Dham pilgrimage at Badrinath, head back to Dehradun or Haridwar.
Distance:
- Badrinath to Dehradun: Approx. 310 km (10 hours by road)
- Badrinath to Haridwar: Approx. 330 km (10-11 hours by road)
- This marks the completion of the Char Dham Yatra, having visited all four sacred sites.
